The Hummingbird Initiative

A long-term, measurable commitment to hummingbird rescue, habitat regeneration, and education.

Real impact. Real numbers. Ongoing work.

Direct Impact

  • 500–600 hummingbirds helped since the initiative began

  • 300–350 hummingbirds assisted through the Terraza Colibrí sanctuary alone

  • Close to a 90%+ rehabilitation success rate, with rescued hummingbirds released back into nature

  • 11 native hummingbird species treated and cared for

  • 10–15 active rescue cases per month on average in 2025

Habitat & Ecosystem Support

  • 4,500+ pollinator-friendly plants planted

  • Direct contribution to habitat regeneration and food availability

Education & Awareness

  • 200+ people directly educated on hummingbird care and rescue

  • 1,000,000+ indirect impressions across all platforms focused on hummingbird protection

What we do

Through our partnership with Terraza Colibrí (click here to see more), dedicated hummingbird sanctuary, we carry out urgent, hands-on conservation:

  • Rescue & Care → Every year, dozens of injured hummingbirds arrive at the sanctuary after window collisions, cat attacks, and habitat loss. Each bird receives constant check-ups, assisted feeding, and daily care until strong enough to recover.

  • Safe Rehabilitation Spaces → Hummingbirds are kept in protected enclosures with special feeders and native flowers. Here they relearn to fly, feed, and hunt, regaining the skills to survive in the wild.

  • Release Into Safe Habitats → Once ready, every bird is carefully released into secure environments where they can continue their essential role as pollinators.

  • Community Replanting & Education → Beyond the sanctuary, we mobilize communities to replant native flowers and create hummingbird oases. We run courses on what to do if you find an injured bird, we’ve even transformed hotels along migratory routes into green havens and there is a lot more to come.

Why we do it

Without pollinators, there is no agave. Without agave, there is no mezcal. Protecting hummingbirds (an endangered pollinator) is protecting our culture, our heritage, and our future. Every bottle turns heritage into action and action into preservation.

All figures represent documented activity to date and are updated periodically as the initiative continues.

Community and nature united through Mezcal Trascendente’s Hummingbird Initiative – rescue, education, and pollinator gardens in Mexico.
